Ombre

by Gillian

A huge trend right now is ombre (having colors or tones that shade into each other) and it’s such an easy DIY. If you have a room with an exposed radiator try painting it with several shades of one color for an awesome effect. {Just be careful if there are small children around, I would advise a radiator cover instead.}

Another super easy trick is to purchase an inexpensive unfinished dresser or desk, or reuse an existing piece you already have, and paint each drawer a different shade. The effect is fresh and unique and will match the rest of your decor.

Of course you can also always create the ombre effect with wall paint. I love the idea of a chevron ombre!

Wee Decor

by Gillian

I would like to thank the kind folks at weeDECOR who sent over the most adorable wall decals for me to test out. They were so easy to install  that even a 4 yr old can do it (no really, my daughter Grace had a blast installing these). I was very impressed with how durable they were (as well as PVC free), and how easily they were to move around (since a 4 yr old installed them some of them were a bit crooked). This company has some of the cutest wall decals I have seen in a while – they have a modern fresh feel to the design and a wide array of themes to choose from. If you’re looking for something more personalized they do that too. My girls love the new addition to their farm bedroom!

My Design Inspiration

by Gillian

I love looking through design magazines and finding inspiration from other designer’s work. I think for anyone looking to decorate a room this is a fantastic place to start. Get a huge stack of magazines and tear out pages that speak to you – whether it’s a fabric, or wall color, a lamp or even the whole vibe of the space. Make sure you write notes on the page about why you like it so you can remember when you need to reference it.

Colorful Bookcase

by Gillian

I am in love with this custom Italian designed bookcase by Dearkids. I am sure it costs a fortune, and would take many months to order and have installed, but I think it’s such a statement piece and could see it in any child’s room.
